Malaysia reaffirms commitment to Bangsamoro peace process

Malaysia has reaffirmed its role as a neutral third-party facilitator in the Bangsamoro peace process. Following a meeting between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Davao City, the two parties have agreed to hold a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur, tentatively scheduled for September 25.

This upcoming meeting follows a five-month hiatus and aims to advance the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB). The technical working group has been tasked with preparing terms of reference for the panels to review during the session.

Mohagher Iqbal, chair of the MILF’s Peace Implementing Panel, emphasized that the peace process will continue regardless of the outcomes of the upcoming Bangsamoro parliamentary elections on September 14. Iqbal noted that the elections are an integral part of the broader peace process and that the transition period is set to conclude on October 30.
