Malaysia Records Record Zakat Collection and Strong Bursa Malaysia Earnings
Penang's Zakat MAINPP reported that zakat fitrah collections for the 2026 fiscal year reached a new high of RM10.316 million, exceeding the target by about 1.1 percent. The increase was driven by coordinated efforts of 1,686 zakat collectors, expanded digital payment channels and greater public awareness, with digital contributions making up roughly 20.6 percent of total collections. More than 21,000 asnaf benefitted from various assistance programmes during Ramadan and Aidilfitri.
Bursa Malaysia announced a post‑tax profit of RM144.6 million for the first half of 2026, a 15.2 percent rise over the same period last year. The earnings boost stemmed from stronger securities‑trading activity and a robust IPO pipeline, with 36 listings raising RM5.4 billion. The exchange’s CEO highlighted continued confidence in Malaysia’s market fundamentals and projected further growth in capital‑raising activity in the second half of the year.
