Malaysia seizes cargo container suspected of export to Israel
The Malaysian government has seized a cargo container at Tanjung Pelepas Port (PTP) in Johor suspected of being destined for export to Israel. The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) intercepted and inspected the shipment on August 7, citing a suspected violation of Item No. 15 of the Second Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023. This regulation prohibits the direct or indirect export of goods to Israel in accordance with national policy.
Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), stated that the seizure demonstrates Malaysia's firm stance against providing logistical support or complicity regarding Israel. He noted that the action aligns with religious obligations and the principles of Maqasid Syariah to preserve life and protect national sovereignty. The Minister called for public support of the government's continued solidarity with Palestine and emphasized that any attempts to facilitate military-related cargo to Israel will be opposed.
