Malaysia sepak takraw squad faces pressure ahead of 2026 Asian Games

The Malaysian national sepak takraw squad is facing increased pressure ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. This pressure stems from heightened public expectations and a new target set by the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM) to secure two gold medals.

Head Coach Ahmad Jais Baharun noted that the appointment of PSM President Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan as the Chef De Mission (CDM) has added to the weight of responsibility on the players. While the official goal is two gold medals, the coaching staff views a single gold medal as the primary target, treating a second as a bonus to avoid overwhelming the athletes.

In preparation, the team is conducting opponent analyses, noting that while Thailand remains a major competitor, other nations are also showing significant improvement. The squad aims to maintain focus on performance to ensure they can compete at the highest levels of the tournament.
