Indonesia stock market and Rupiah show recovery amid new BI Governor appointment

The Indonesian stock market, represented by the Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG), has shown recent volatility and recovery. After a period of decline, the index saw a significant rebound, rising 1.81 percent to 6,521.75 on Thursday, August 27, 2026. This recovery was supported by gains in financial, industrial, and consumer sectors, as well as a positive response to the peaceful conclusion of demonstrations at the DPR RI building.

In the currency market, the Rupiah strengthened against the US Dollar, closing at approximately Rp17,693. This appreciation was partly driven by market optimism following the official approval of Destry Damayanti as the Governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2026–2031 period. Investors are now closely monitoring upcoming US inflation data and the Federal Reserve's policy direction following the Jackson Hole symposium.

While the market showed resilience, analysts suggest a sideways trend may persist as investors maintain a wait-and-see approach regarding global economic signals and domestic political stability.
