Malaysia strengthens TVET and engineering technology talent chains

The Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) is actively strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda by integrating engineering technology programs into vocational pathways. This strategic move aims to build a competent, international-standard technical talent chain and reduce reliance on foreign workers in sectors such as construction.

Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized that the BEM Engineering Technology Accreditation Council is critical to ensuring TVET is recognized as a primary pathway for producing skilled local technologists and technicians. This initiative was highlighted during the National Engineering Convention (NEC) 2026.

In a related development, the Malaysian Technical and Vocational Education Association (PPTVM) recently celebrated the graduation of 236 students at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. PPTVM President Dr. Lisa Boo Kim Hiok stated the association remains committed to developing the TVET ecosystem through professional certification, instructor development, and strategic industry partnerships to meet current workforce demands.
