Malaysia tax authority probes Tabung Haji after Royal Commission report

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has begun an investigation into individuals linked to Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) following findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI). The RCI report, covering 2014‑2020, said TH should have recorded a loss of RM1.4 billion in 2017 rather than the RM3.4 billion profit it reported, and highlighted governance weaknesses and possible political interference in board appointments.

Daie Madani chair Amir Zuhair Abdull Khalid urged that the follow‑up investigation be conducted transparently and without interference, stressing that any wrongdoing must be decided by the courts. He called for support for the Prime Minister and the anti‑corruption commission to ensure an independent process.

The probe involves raids on premises, document reviews and fact‑checking to verify discrepancies between asset ownership and reported income, with further action to depend on the evidence gathered.
