Malaysia Techlympic 2026 aims to boost youth STEM talent

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is organizing the Malaysia Techlympic 2026 to strengthen the culture of science, technology, and innovation (STI) among the younger generation. The initiative aims to provide early exposure and hands-on experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Mohammad Yusof Apdal stated that the program focuses on experiential learning to make STEM more engaging and relevant to daily life. The goal is to nurture local talent, stimulate innovative ideas, and eventually produce more national scientists. The program targets participants aged seven to 30, ranging from school students to youth.

The Sabah Zone and Labuan Federal Territory stage of the event at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) saw 1,043 participants, while national-level participation has exceeded two million. The initiative seeks to ensure the younger generation can master, create, and lead technology rather than just being consumers.
