Malaysia to establish child protection one-stop hubs

Malaysia's Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, reported that 6,266 children required care and protection during the first six months of this year. The figure is projected to reach 10,904 throughout 2025.

To address these needs, the government is launching a pilot project under the New Policy 2026, designating 15 Child Activity Centres (PAKK) as One-Stop Centres for children and families. Each hub will receive a grant of RM24,330, with a total allocation of approximately RM365,000. This initiative follows a “One PAKK, One Corporate Social Responsibility” concept to bring services closer to local communities.

Shukri emphasized the need to expand advocacy and prevention programs into high-risk areas, including low-cost housing (PPR), estates, Orang Asli villages, and remote locations. To strengthen the community protection network, 1,225 members from 141 Child Protection Teams (PPKK) and 1,174 members from 138 Child Welfare Teams (PKKK) have been appointed for the 2024–2026 period.
