Malaysia to intercept cargo shipments supporting Israeli military
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has pledged to take strict action against any cargo shipments passing through Malaysia that are found to support the military capabilities of Israel. Ibrahim stated on the social media platform X that Malaysia will not allow its territory to be used as a conduit for shipments contributing to Israeli military operations or actions against Palestinians.
Authorities have already begun intercepting shipments. Reports indicate that Malaysian officials seized three containers at Tanjung Pelepas Port destined for the Port of Ashdod; these containers reportedly contained electric bicycle parts from a Chinese manufacturer. Additionally, a shipment from the Philippines was detained in August due to suspicions it contained weapons intended for the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems.
Under Malaysian law, any suspicious cargo will be subject to thorough inspection and investigation. Ibrahim emphasized that decisive measures will be taken if violations are confirmed. This move follows a previous policy announced in July regarding the deportation of individuals holding dual citizenship that includes Israeli nationality while residing in Malaysia.
