Malaysia to phase in electric waste trucks under public‑cleaning reform

The Malaysian government will gradually replace diesel‑powered waste‑collection vehicles with electric trucks as part of a broader public‑cleaning reform. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the phased approach will be coordinated by a special task force working with all 12 local authorities in Selangor.

The reform also shifts collection and street‑cleaning operations to nighttime, ensuring a cleaner environment when residents wake. It expands the implementation of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Act 2007 (Act 672) to Selangor in stages, aligning with the National Public Cleansing Policy and the upcoming National Landscape Day 2026. "When Malaysians sleep, we clean; when they wake, the country is clean and prosperous," the minister said.
