Malaysia to provide pensions and compensation for Long Lellang crash victims' families
The next-of-kin of four Ministry of Health (MoH) personnel who died in the Long Lellang helicopter crash will receive monthly derivative pensions starting October 21. Each family is also eligible for lump-sum payments of up to RM130,000.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad stated that the lump-sum compensation includes funeral expense assistance, ex-gratia death payments, derivative gratuity, and compensation for accumulated leave. The disbursement is being coordinated through the Public Service Department and the Sarawak State Health Department.
In recognition of their service, a proposal for the posthumous promotion of the four healthcare workers has been approved. The crash, involving a Flying Doctor Service helicopter on September 8 in Ulu Baram, Sarawak, resulted in five fatalities, including a pilot and four MoH staff members.
