Malaysia transport authorities crack down on commercial vehicle violations

The Malaysian Road Transport Department (JPJ) has conducted targeted enforcement operations against commercial vehicle drivers to improve road safety and compliance.

In Kedah, authorities detained a 43-year-old lorry driver suspected of testing positive for methamphetamine near the Jitra Toll Plaza. The driver reportedly used the substance to increase stamina during long-distance trips between Perlis and Perak. Since July 1, six commercial drivers in Kedah have been detained for positive drug tests during this special operation. JPJ officials advised drivers to prioritize adequate rest rather than using illegal substances to combat fatigue.

In Selangor, a 30-year-old Indian national was detained at the Rawang Rest and Service Area for driving a trailer without a valid license or legal employment documents. The individual claimed to have resided in Malaysia for nine years without valid documentation. During a two-day enforcement operation on the North-South Expressway and the New Klang Valley Expressway, authorities issued summonses to 33 commercial vehicles for various violations, including improper lane usage.
