Malaysia U-20 football team defeats Laos but misses Asian Cup qualification

The Malaysia Under-20 national football team concluded their AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Laos in Vientiane. Haziq Aziz opened the scoring for Malaysia in the 7th minute, and Fadhlul Hadi Zulkarnain secured the win with a second goal in the 77th minute. Laos managed to equalize through Odin Siphanit in the 61st minute.

Despite the win, Malaysia failed to qualify for the final tournament in China. Under the competition format, results against the bottom-placed team in the group are excluded from the calculation for the seven best runners-up. Consequently, Malaysia finished with two points from their previous draws against Indonesia and Australia, placing them eighth among the runners-up and missing out on qualification. Indonesia won Group H, while Australia was eliminated.
