Malaysia urges durian exporters to comply with China phytosanitary protocol

Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has warned all durian industry participants to adhere to the phytosanitary requirements agreed with China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) for fresh durian exports. The ministry said any unilateral adoption of new methods, such as pre‑cut processing, could jeopardise market access and undermine confidence of Chinese authorities.

China remains the top destination, accounting for about 79 % of the projected RM1.10 billion durian export value expected in 2025. Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin emphasized that compliance is essential to safeguard the entire sector’s access to the lucrative Chinese market.
