Malaysia vows not to allow Southern Thailand militants to use its territory

Malaysian Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has stated that Malaysia will not allow its territory to be used as a sanctuary or a base for planning activities by groups that use violence and reject the peace process in Southern Thailand.

To prevent security threats from spreading, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) are tightening controls and monitoring along the Malaysia-Thailand border. This includes patrolling official entry points and monitoring forested border areas to prevent unauthorized infiltration.

Mohamed Khaled confirmed that the Malaysian government remains committed to supporting peace efforts in Southern Thailand. Following the recent conclusion of Datuk Mohd Rabin Basir’s term, the ATM has submitted a list of proposed names to the Prime Minister for consideration to serve as a facilitator for the Southern Thailand peace process.
