Malaysia Works Minister warns engineering industry against compromising safety for profit

Malaysian Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has urged the engineering industry to maintain high integrity and never compromise on safety standards to pursue profits or reduce operational costs. Speaking at the Board of Engineers Malaysia (LJM) 2026 Engineering Awards and Appreciation Ceremony, he emphasized that while cost control is a vital business element, human lives and safety are priceless.

During the event, the BEM Young Engineering Innovation Trophy 2026 was launched. This national platform is designed for students and new graduates to showcase their Final Year Projects (FYP) and Integrated Design Projects (IDP), encouraging them to develop solutions that are safe, practical, and sustainable.

The ceremony also recognized industry leaders, including Datuk Seri Ir Dr Judin Abdul Karim as the 2026 National Engineering Figure, and Associate Professor Ir Dr Serene Lock Sow Mun as the 2026 National Young Engineering Figure.
