Malaysian badminton pair targets gold at 2026 Asian Games

Malaysian men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have set their sights on winning a gold medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The world No. 6 ranked duo aims to end a 20-year drought for Malaysia in the men's doubles category, a feat last achieved by Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong in 2006.

While the players expressed high confidence following their participation in the China Open, Rexy Mainaky, Director of Coaching at the Malaysia Badminton Academy, has urged a more realistic approach. Mainaky suggested that targeting silver and bronze medals may be more grounded in the current performance levels of the squad. He noted that while the players are capable of greatness, the team must remain practical regarding the competition ahead.
