Malaysian chip designers join Japanese foundry Rapidus ecosystem
Four Malaysian semiconductor firms—SkyeChip, Oppstar Technology, Infinecs Systems, and GreatAsic Technology—have joined the design ecosystem of the Japanese foundry Rapidus. They are part of the 17 inaugural Design Solution Associates under the Rapidus Collaborative Open Rapid Ecosystem (Rapidus Core).
This partnership aims to connect prospective customers with companies capable of providing the expertise required for Rapidus’ planned 2-nanometre manufacturing platform, which is scheduled to launch in 2027. Singapore’s Quest Global Services has also joined the alliance. While the involvement has not yet resulted in firm commercial orders, the move aligns with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy to advance the country's position in the semiconductor value chain through chip design, intellectual property development, and advanced packaging.
