Malaysian headmaster sentenced to 20 years in prison
The Malaysian Court of Appeal has sentenced a 59-year-old headmaster, Anuar Kintan, to 20 years in prison and 11 strokes of the cane for sexual offenses involving a 12-year-old student.
A three-judge panel, led by Justice Noorin Badaruddin, dismissed the defendant's appeal regarding a conviction for producing child pornography. The court upheld the High Court's original sentence of nine years in prison and eight strokes of the cane for this charge.
Additionally, the panel allowed a prosecution appeal to overturn a previous acquittal on a charge of physical sexual assault. Anuar was convicted of this second charge and sentenced to 11 years in prison and three strokes of the cane. The court ordered the sentences to be served consecutively. Following his imprisonment, the defendant will be subject to two years of police supervision.
