Malaysian Immigration Department investigates logo misuse

The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has confirmed that a vehicle seen in a viral social media video featuring the department's logo was not an official government asset. Following the circulation of a video showing a foreign national driving a vehicle with the JIM logo, the department launched an investigation to identify those involved.

In a subsequent operation, authorities detained a Pakistani national who admitted to installing the department's logo and strobe lights on his Toyota Hilux for personal use, claiming he was unaware it was illegal. The investigation also led to the arrest of the vehicle's owner, a Pakistani national, and several others, including an Indonesian woman found to be overstaying. Additionally, eight employees at a car wash where the vehicle was located were detained.

Director General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated that the department takes the misuse of its identity seriously as it can cause public confusion and damage the agency's integrity. Investigations revealed that while the video was recorded in April of last year, it only recently surfaced on social media.
