Malaysian leaders link independence to economic growth and skill development

Malaysian leaders have emphasized that the meaning of independence should be reflected through economic strength and improved living standards for citizens.

Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah stated that the state is focusing on an agenda of economic growth, investment, infrastructure, modern agriculture, tourism, and human capital development. He expressed the goal of creating a dynamic economy that provides better job opportunities, ensuring the younger generation has reasons to build their lives within the state. He also noted that independence should result in more efficient, transparent, and high-integrity government service delivery.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi added that independence today means ensuring citizens possess necessary skills, particularly through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), to secure high-paying jobs. He highlighted the importance of supporting small entrepreneurs and ensuring national development reaches rural areas and villages, rather than being confined to urban centers.
