Malaysian officials and political parties address safety and data security
Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, emphasized that occupational safety and health (OSH) must be a priority in all infrastructure development projects. Speaking at the 44th MSOSH Occupational Safety and Health Awards, he stated that project success should be measured not only by schedule and cost but also by the ability to ensure every worker returns home safely. He called for strengthened compliance with OSH regulations through cooperation between the Ministry of Works, JKR, CIDB, JKKP, and industry stakeholders.
Separately, the BERSAMA party has called for greater transparency regarding national data security. Spokesperson Seah Jhen Pei criticized the government's ban on the Waze navigation app for civil servants, questioning the readiness of the local alternative, TuJu, following reports of service disruptions. BERSAMA urged the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) to establish uniform guidelines for app usage on government devices and requested a disclosure of the risk assessments that led to the Waze ban. The party also proposed amending the Personal Data Protection Act to include federal and state governments.
