Malaysia seizes suspected strategic goods shipment bound for Israel
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized a container at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor suspected of carrying strategic goods destined for Israel.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commended the agency's swift action, stating it demonstrates Malaysia's refusal to allow its territory to serve as a transit route for trade that could contribute to atrocities against the Palestinian people. He noted the seizure is consistent with the December 2023 ban prohibiting Israeli vessels or cargo destined for Israel from using Malaysian ports, as well as Malaysia's commitments under The Hague Group.
Preliminary inspections suggest the shipment may violate Item No. 15 of the Second Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023, which prohibits the direct or indirect export of goods to Israel in accordance with national government policies.
