Malaysian PM Anwar pledges assistance to Orang Asli land dispute in Pahang
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will raise the land‑ownership dispute affecting the Orang Asli community of Kampung Sungai Cot in Maran, Pahang, with the state government. In a Facebook post, Anwar explained that the issue falls under state jurisdiction and promised to seek a fair resolution.
Anwar also contacted the community’s representatives by phone, learning that three Orang Asli residents who had been detained by police were released. The dispute centres on Lot 42531, which is registered to a company, while the Orang Asli have cultivated the land for years, growing oil palm, rubber and fruit trees. State agencies, the police, the Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) and the company have held meetings to discuss possible relocation, compensation and alternative land for the affected families.
