Malaysian police dismantle online gambling and scam syndicates
Police in Malaysia have conducted separate raids targeting online gambling and scam syndicates operating from residential and commercial premises.
In Sungai Petani, authorities raided a former hotel being used as a call center for an online gaming scam targeting Bangladeshi citizens. Four Bangladeshi men were detained, with suspects believed to earn approximately RM2,700 per month. The syndicate reportedly used websites and WhatsApp to manage game credits while delaying customer withdrawals. Police also detained two local men suspected of involvement in renting out the premises.
In Taiping, Perak police dismantled a syndicate specifically targeting Australian citizens through online gambling platforms. Six local men were arrested for allegedly acting as agents to promote activities via Telegram and WeChat. The group utilized specific platforms such as One2Bet-AUS, Roladoll-AUS, and Majesty777-AUS. Authorities seized electronic equipment, including monitors and CPUs, valued at approximately RM35,000.
