Malaysian police warn against vigilante action regarding Rohingya

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a warning to the public and social media influencers against taking vigilante action regarding the Rohingya community. Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, Director of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department at Bukit Aman, emphasized that individuals must not ‘make their own laws’ or act based on emotion, as such actions could jeopardize national security.

Authorities have urged citizens to report any information concerning the location or activities of Rohingya groups directly to the police or the Immigration Department of Malaysia. This follows concerns over social media provocations and the viral sharing of locations of suspected settlements, which officials fear could lead to unrest. Noor Hisam Nordin stated that the relevant authorities possess the legal jurisdiction and proper channels to handle these matters according to existing laws.
