Malaysian political coalitions face internal friction and leadership trust issues

Political tensions are rising within Malaysia's governing and opposition coalitions. Within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) opposition bloc, Wawasan information chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal dismissed claims by Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu that Wawasan controls PN's decision-making. Wan Fayhsal characterized the accusations as baseless, noting that Bersatu has frequently acted against coalition leadership decisions.

Separately, former minister Khairy Jamaluddin has suggested that trust between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reached a low point. This friction follows Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision to align with Perikatan Nasional for the Negeri Sembilan state elections, an act Khairy described as creating a “massive rupture” between BN and the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component of the unity government. The political stability of the current administration remains a subject of debate as the coalition's long-term support is questioned.
