Malaysian political parties navigate shifts in party alignments

The political landscape in Malaysia is seeing shifts in party alignments following recent election results in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. Wawasan election director Badrul Hisham Shaharin stated that the party remains open to new members, specifically addressing speculation regarding Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief Hanifah Abu Baker. While Hanifah met with Wawasan president Hamzah Zainudin, a Bersatu Supreme Council member indicated that Hanifah intends to remain with Bersatu and has rejected offers from Wawasan.

Separately, analysts suggest that any potential cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu in Selangor would represent a strategic recalibration for both parties. Following losses in recent polls, both groups are reportedly exploring new formulas to navigate a landscape where Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional have consolidated Malay votes. While Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari noted that PH has not closed the door to cooperation with Bersatu, internal discussions within PH, including members of the DAP, have raised questions regarding such an alliance.
