Malaysia's B15 biodiesel implementation saves 23.62 million liters of diesel monthly
The implementation of B15 biodiesel blending has saved an average of 23.62 million liters of petroleum-based diesel per month between June and August. According to Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, this initiative aims to strengthen national energy security and reduce Malaysia's reliance on petroleum fuels.
As a major global palm oil producer, Malaysia leverages its continuous availability of raw materials to support biodiesel production. This shift is intended to mitigate the impact of global petroleum price fluctuations, particularly during periods of geopolitical tension, and assist the government in managing diesel subsidy expenditures more effectively.
Addressing concerns regarding vehicle safety and performance, the Minister noted that the B15 mandate is based on technical and scientific evidence. Field tests conducted by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and support from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) have indicated that blends up to B20 are suitable for diesel vehicles. Furthermore, since 2020, all diesel vehicles imported into Malaysia have been required to be compatible with B20 blends.
