Malaysia's DAP under scrutiny as coalition partners demand new mandate

Deputy Secretary‑General of the People's Justice Party (PKR), Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad, rejected calls to dissolve Parliament if the Democratic Action Party (DAP) were to leave the federal administration. He argued that a government’s mandate is derived from the electorate and should be completed for a full term, noting that the current administration has driven economic growth and that the coalition would remain stable with a two‑thirds parliamentary majority.

Assistant Secretary‑General of the Pan‑Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), Khairul Faizi Ahmad Kamil, warned that DAP’s possible exit from the cabinet would signal a loss of unity within the so‑called “government of unity”. He said the public should be given a fresh mandate to decide the country’s direction and that the coalition’s credibility would be undermined if a partner party withdrew from governing responsibilities.
