Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Aaron Chia Reach Taiwan Open Quarterfinals
World No. 5 Malaysian women's pair Pearly Tan‑M. Thinaah returned to form at the Taiwan Open, defeating the host duo Lin Chih‑Chun‑Yang and Chu Yun 21‑14, 21‑17 to advance to the quarter‑finals. Their win marked the pair’s best result since returning from a back‑injury lay‑off in May and set up a semi‑final clash with the United States pair Francesca Corbett and Jennie Gai.
In the men’s draw, Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai produced an upset over the No. 17 world‑ranked Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe‑Huei and Yang Po‑Hsuan, moving into the quarter‑finals where they will meet the host team of Chen Cheng and Kuan‑Liu. Other Malaysian representatives, Low Zi Yu‑Noraqilah and Justin Hoh, were eliminated in earlier rounds.
Both pairs are using the tournament as preparation ahead of the World Championships in India scheduled for August.
