Malaysia's PN coalition fractures as PAS seeks seat talks with UMNO and says Bersatu has left
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party is prepared to negotiate with UMNO over a state assembly seat in the upcoming Melaka state election, aiming to prevent Pakatan Harapan from gaining ground. He noted the seat was previously won by Barisan Nasional but the incumbent has since joined PAS, and the parties hope to discuss its allocation.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang declared that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has automatically ceased to be part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition after announcing plans to form a new political alliance, citing the PN constitution. He said no formal announcement was required. This follows PAS ending its political cooperation with Bersatu last month, although both remain PN component parties pending further developments. Bersatu leader Muhyiddin Yassin has said his party will join a new coalition with other groups ahead of the next general election.
