Malaysia's Universities Push AI Education and Ethical Curriculum

Malaysian education leaders are urging a shift toward AI‑focused learning that begins in schools and extends through universities and industry partnerships. The approach stresses hands‑on, experience‑based teaching to develop analytical, creative and lifelong‑learning skills, while also integrating digital ethics, empathy and moral reasoning into AI and STEM curricula.

At Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit highlighted the need for scientific progress to be guided by wisdom and ethics, citing the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 which forecasts both job displacement from automation and new opportunities in AI‑related fields. He called for collaboration with institutions such as the International Islamic University Malaysia to embed moral foundations in higher‑education programmes, aligning with UNIMAS’s 2026‑2030 strategic plan.
