Duane Davis murder trial: Prosecution rests in Tupac Shakur case
The murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, concerning the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, has reached a critical stage in Las Vegas. Prosecutors have rested their case after calling 24 witnesses, including former Compton gang detective Robert Ladd. Ladd testified that Davis was a high-ranking “shot caller” for the South Side Compton Crips and argued that younger gang members would not have opened fire on Shakur without Davis's permission.
Witnesses also provided accounts of the night of the shooting. Malcolm Greenidge, a childhood friend of Shakur, testified to witnessing a Cadillac pull alongside Shakur's BMW and seeing a gun being fired from the vehicle. Prosecutors allege the shooting was a retaliatory act following a confrontation at the MGM Grand involving Davis's nephew, Orlando Anderson.
In recent developments, Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, alleged from prison that Davis's legal team offered him $1 million to testify that Davis was not in the vehicle during the shooting. Knight stated he rejected the offer. The defense, led by attorney Michael Sanft, is expected to begin presenting its case, focusing on the lack of physical evidence linking Davis to the crime scene.
