Malcolm X College reopens expanded West Campus in Chicago
Malcolm X College has officially reopened its expanded West Campus in Chicago, featuring the newly renovated Danny K. Davis Community Center. The $20 million project, which broke ground in November 2024, aims to modernize the satellite campus located at 4624 W. Madison St. near the Austin and Garfield Park neighborhoods.
The renovation increases the campus capacity by 50%, allowing it to accommodate up to 2,000 students. The reopening ceremony was attended by local leaders, including Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Juan Salgado, and Malcolm X College President David Sanders. The facility, formerly known as the West Side Learning Center, was renamed in honor of U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis, who was credited with helping raise over $30 million to support student success and equitable academic resources.
