Maldives Airports Company Limited renews IATA safety accreditations
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has renewed its IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) accreditation and registration. This renewal confirms the state-owned operator's continued compliance with international standards for ground-handling management and operational procedures, including passenger handling, baggage, cargo, and ramp operations.
In addition to the ISAGO renewal, MACL achieved recognition under the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Enhanced Ground Support Equipment (GSE) programme. This recognition specifically addresses the safety of machinery and vehicles used around aircraft, with a focus on reducing ground damage through the use of equipment such as anti-collision-fitted machinery.
The accreditation follows MACL’s sixth ISAGO audit, conducted in late April 2026. These certifications are significant for the operations at Velana International Airport, the Maldives' primary aviation gateway, as they ensure consistency in ground-handling services and reduce the necessity for individual airlines to conduct repetitive audits of the provider.
