Maldives signs agreement with India for community fitness centers
The Maldives and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish fitness and recreation centers on three additional islands. This initiative is part of India’s High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP).
The agreement was signed by Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shaheed, and Indian High Commissioner, G. Balasubramanian. Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Abdulla Rafeeu, also participated in the ceremony.
This project aims to promote healthy lifestyles and social cohesion, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives First” foreign policy. The expansion follows a previous agreement in July to establish similar facilities on 42 islands.
