Pentagon removes top military planner amid Iran tensions
Lieutenant General Brett Silvia has been removed from his position as the head of Strategy, Plans, and Policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, commonly known as J5. A defense official confirmed the decision, noting that no immediate successor has been appointed and the specific reasons for the removal were not disclosed.
This leadership change occurs as President Donald Trump considers potential military actions against Iran. Silvia is the second general to be removed from this specific role, following the forced retirement of Lieutenant General Joseph McKeague last October. The J5 directorate is responsible for coordinating military planning in conjunction with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
