Maldives government disburses over 10 million rufiyaa in cash aid, banks launch Mastercard reward promotions
The Maldivian government’s cash assistance programme has distributed more than 10 million rufiyaa to citizens, with payments totalling 4,028,735 MVR in the latest tranche and a cumulative 10,040,706 MVR over 40 days. Payments ranged from 2,535,234 MVR for a 22‑day period to smaller amounts of 200 MVR, 1,000 MVR and 5,000 MVR for specific beneficiaries.
Separately, Bank of Maldives (BML) introduced a Mastercard‑linked promotion offering a 100,000 MVR voucher and additional cash rewards of 200 MVR, 1,000 MVR, and 5,000 MVR, plus dollar‑equivalent bonuses of up to $1,600 for qualifying transactions. The promotion also includes debit, credit and prepaid card benefits and is aimed at encouraging card usage among customers.
