Maldives finances show $1.7 bn BML revenue but no dollar inflow for MDP

Bank of Maldives (BML) reported a revenue of about $1.7 billion, with additional figures of $957 million and $870 million mentioned for the 2024‑2026 period. The report also lists projected revenues of $21 million in 2021 and various other amounts for subsequent years.

Finance Minister Ibrahim Harmah stated that the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) will receive no dollar revenue this year and that the 2024‑2026 budgets will face shortfalls. He warned that the lack of dollar inflows could affect the budget and highlighted concerns over exchange‑rate impacts and debt servicing.

Both statements illustrate a fiscal environment in the Maldives where large revenues from BML contrast with a projected absence of dollar income for the MDP and overall budgetary challenges for the coming years.
