Maldives Government to pursue tourism leaseholders over unpaid rent

The Maldives Government has announced it will pursue tourism leaseholders for unpaid rent, fines, and penalties under the Tourism Act. This enforcement directive applies to both actively operating properties and those that have ceased or suspended operations without prior authorization from the Ministry.

Affected leaseholders are required to immediately settle all outstanding amounts owed to the State in accordance with their specific lease agreements. The measure indicates a shift toward stricter enforcement of lease obligations within the tourism sector, specifically targeting operators who have stopped working without formal approval.
