Maldives infrastructure and healthcare updates: Maamunmagu Airport and EyeCare Hospital news

Ahmed Saudhi, Managing Director of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), announced that the Maamunmagu Airport project is expected to be completed ahead of schedule. While construction faced delays after starting in October 2022, work resumed mid-last year. Significant progress has been made on the terminal structure, fire building, and runway preparation.

Other regional airport projects are also underway, including work on Makunudhoo Airport, Nilandhoo Airport, and runway expansion at Alifushi Airport involving new dredging operations. The government has assured that Maamunmagu Airport will be operational within the current term.

In the healthcare sector, EyeCare Hospital in the Maldives has partnered with India’s Chaitanya Hospital to host specialist eye doctors for a five-day consultation period. Senior consultants Dr. Manoj and Dr. Harikrishnan CP will provide services at the Orchid Magu facility, offering expertise in vitreoretinal surgery and glaucoma/cataract procedures to local patients.
