Maldives leaders urge digital and AI integration in tourism

On World Tourism Day 2026, Maldivian leaders emphasized the need to integrate digital technologies and artificial intelligence into the nation’s tourism sector while preserving traditional hospitality.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Maldives must invest in digital skills and capabilities to remain competitive as AI reshapes how travelers discover and experience destinations. He noted that technology should serve to complement, rather than replace, the personal human touch that defines Maldivian identity.

Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, Chairman of Sun Siyam Group, echoed these sentiments, urging the industry to harness digital innovation to enhance the sector without losing the human connection at its core. The 2026 theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” highlights the ongoing shift toward a more technologically integrated travel landscape.
