Maldives police arrest four after targeted motorcycle crash injures officer

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has stated that a high-speed motorcycle crash on the Hulhumale’ Highway was a deliberate attempt to intimidate officers and disrupt a police crackdown on reckless driving. The incident occurred around 04:29 am on a Saturday when a motorcyclist traveling at over 100 kilometers per hour struck a police barricade at a vehicle checkpoint.

One police officer sustained serious injuries, including facial wounds and broken teeth, and was transported to ADK Hospital in Male’. Preliminary investigations suggest that three other motorcycles were also involved in the incident.

Authorities have taken four individuals into custody: two people from the motorcycle involved in the direct collision and two others from a second motorcycle linked to the event. Commissioner Mohamed emphasized that the Maldives Police Service will not be deterred by such attempts to undermine road safety operations.
