Maldives Premier Bank launches as first digital commercial bank

Maldives Premier Bank (MPB) has officially launched as the first digital commercial bank in the Maldives. The bank transitioned from the implementation phase to full operational status in just three months, supported by the technological infrastructure provided by banknbox.

Licensed by the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), MPB is the ninth licensed bank in the country. It offers services to retail, premium, and corporate clients. The official launch ceremony was attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who inaugurated the mobile banking application and online banking portal.

According to MPB CEO and Managing Director Ara Sadava, the bank was established to serve key sectors of the Maldivian economy, including tourism, trade, and infrastructure. Bassem Mahmoud, CEO of banknbox, noted that the project demonstrated the ability to deliver a complete banking system within a record timeframe without compromising security or compliance standards.
