Maldives 2.0 digital reform faces corruption allegations and budget backlash

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s “Maldives 2.0” programme, intended to digitise government services and improve public administration, has become the focus of corruption accusations. Opposition figures and watchdogs claim that the roll‑out has involved irregular procurement, inflated contracts and alleged police interference. Reported figures include more than 1,785 million rufiyaa in disputed spending, with individual allocations of 1,244 million, 350 million, 65 million and 352 million rufiyaa cited for various projects. Critics also note that additional funds of 1,052 million and 140 million rufiyaa were allegedly diverted, raising concerns over the transparency and oversight of the initiative. The controversy has sparked calls for a review of the programme’s financing and implementation.
