Maldives introduces new export rules for Kachchala
The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has introduced new regulations regarding the export of Kachchala. This species is listed under CITES Appendix II due to declining populations, requiring special authorization from national authorities and a 'non-detrimental finding' (NDF) report to ensure sustainable harvesting.
The Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI) has already established the exportable quota and completed the necessary NDF report. To comply with the new rules, entities currently engaged in Kachchala exports that do not possess a processing license must apply through the 'Keyolu Portal' by the 20th of this month.
