Maldonado housing administration targets land acquisition for future development

The Maldonado Departmental Government in Uruguay is prioritizing land acquisition to advance housing plans. Alejandro Lussich, Director General of Housing and Neighborhood Development, stated that budget adjustments effective from 2027 to 2030 will provide the necessary resources to purchase land, which is essential for meeting local housing needs and supporting cooperatives.

Key initiatives include a pilot program for rental subsidies specifically designed for single-parent households, who often face greater financial barriers to housing. Additionally, the administration aims to conduct a land lottery in 2028, following the completion of necessary infrastructure works. The plan also involves investments in labor through agreements with the construction union.
