Maldonado implements new transit scheme for Punta del Este

The Maldonado Departmental Administration (IDM) has announced a new mobility scheme for the upcoming summer season in Punta del Este. To mitigate heavy traffic congestion, interdepartmental buses will no longer enter the peninsula. Instead, these vehicles will terminate their routes at the Maldonado Terminal.

Passengers traveling to Punta del Este will be transferred using smaller vehicles or shuttle services at no additional cost. The administration stated that this decision addresses the fact that only 5% of passengers on interdepartmental buses are traveling the final five-kilometer stretch into the peninsula, a route that currently causes significant delays. Additionally, the Maldonado Terminal building is slated to be repurposed to house the Fire Department, Police, and Coast Guard.
